About Me

About

I am currently the Director of Housing and Student Involvement at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, OR. EOU is a small, rural institution focused on serving students where they are. It’s also a unique institution given that just over half of its headcount does not attend class on campus. Rather, they participate in online programs or at one of our on-site locations throughout Oregon.

This is my personal blog. I intend to focus on posts related to student affairs generally as well as specific topics regarding housing, residence life, student activities and involvement, leadership, and the occasional travails of a graduate student. I might occasionally venture from these topics but will always try to do so through one of these lenses.

Biography

I have worked professionally in higher education student affairs since 2001. After receiving my undergraduate degree at Boise State University, I went to the University of Oregon to earn my Masters degree in Educational Leadership. While at the University of Oregon, I worked as a hearing officer in the Office of Student Life and in a variety of positions in University Housing both live-in and live-off. After leaving the UO, I went to Eastern Oregon University as the Director of Housing and Student Involvement where I oversee housing and residence life, the student union and facilities scheduling, student involvement and leadership, outdoor programs, and serve as the food service contract liaison.

I am also currently a doctoral student at Portland State University in the Graduate School of Education working on a degree in Educational Leadership: Post-secondary Leadership. My dissertation topic is on the intersection of academic advising and self-directed learning for online learners.
